why discus chase each other?

Noticed my Discus chasing each other a lot lately. Tank's a 75 gallon, temp at 84F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Weekly 50% water changes, sand substrate, driftwood, and some Java ferns. Feeding them beef heart mix twice a day, flakes once. They're around 4 inches, 6 of them. No new additions. Is this normal behavior or something to worry about?

Sounds like they're just establishing pecking order. My guys did the same when I first got them. 55 gallon, same params as yours but with more plants. They chilled out after a few weeks. Maybe cut back on feeding a bit, see if that helps.

Yep, totally normal. Mine do it all the time, especially during feeding. 90 gallon here, temp 86F, pH 6.5. They're like little divas, always squabbling over who gets the best spot. As long as no one's getting hurt, it's just part of their vibe. Try adding more hiding spots if it gets too intense.

I agree with dWright. My 75 gallon has tons of driftwood and plants, and they still chase. It's just their way. Water changes every 5 days, temp 85F, pH 6.7. They're healthy and colorful, so I wouldn't stress.

Mine do this too! 60 gallon, temp 83F, pH 6.8. I was worried at first, but they're fine. Just make sure no one's getting bullied too much. Maybe spread out the food so they don't fight over it.

Could be breeding behavior. My pair chases the others when they're ready to spawn. 75 gallon, temp 85F, pH 6.5. Check if two are sticking together more, cleaning a spot. That's a giveaway.

Mine chase when the lights first come on. 55 gallon, temp 84F, pH 6.6. Maybe it's just morning energy. They settle down after an hour or so.

Spot on. My pair does the same. 90 gallon, temp 86F, pH 6.4. They get super territorial. If you see two hanging out more, it's likely breeding.

Mine chase during water changes. 75 gallon, temp 85F, pH 6.7. Think it's the sudden movement that spooks them. They calm down once everything's settled.

Never noticed mine chasing. 50 gallon, temp 83F, pH 6.8. Maybe I got lucky with a chill group.
