My emperor cardinals had a successful spawn, I've got 20 little ones now. They're all doing great, eating and growing like crazy. I'm already thinking ahead to when they're ready to go to new homes - what's the best way to sell them, does anyone have any advice? Also, do tank-raised fish generally sell for more than wild-caught ones?

What price are you thinking of selling the emperor cardinals for?
I'm interested in buying 5 of them, so what would be a reasonable price for that amount?
I've found that tank-raised fish generally sell for a bit more than wild-caught ones - around a 5-6 pound difference. This is likely because they're considered hardier and haven't been taken from the wild.

I was thinking of pricing them around £10-£15 each, seems a fair price considering their hardiness and the care they've received.

The reason tank raised fish cost more is due to simple economics. Demand for them is higher, while supply is lower compared to wild caught fish. This is the law of supply and demand in action. The number of breeders is limited, and it's not a lucrative business, which contributes to the shortage. In my experience, tank bred fish typically go for around $10 more than their wild counterparts.
It's not about how hardy they are, it's about the bottom line. When it comes to business, the law of supply and demand takes precedence. Capitalists, by nature, are driven by profit, not emotions. If we let emotions get in the way, we'd be out of business, overtaken by the corporate giants.

think I got it the wrong way round with the prices, cheers for pointing that out.
if you're willing to give me a bit of time to sort the cash, I'd be happy to give you £70 for the 4 fish, just need about 4 weeks to get the money together.

£70 for 4 sounds like a great deal. I'm glad we could agree on a price.
As for the logistics, I won't be able to post them, so you'll need to arrange collection. Don't worry about the details for now, I'll be happy to share my address and other necessary information with you closer to the time.

If you're looking to shift as many as you can, selling them personally is the way to go. Then, you can offer any extras to a local fish shop. Be upfront with them, let them know you're a small-time breeder, not some big supplier. If they're selling similar fish for around £20, you could try getting £10-15 for yours, but be prepared to negotiate.
