I just got this coral a week ago, it's still a mystery to me, what's the name of this species? Does anyone know? Here's a photo

I'm leaning towards Alveopora, but Goniopora's also a possibility - hard to say for certain without more info.

Alveopora are also commonly referred to as flower pot corals, which is what I think _frostbite was getting at.

Goniopora, with 24 distinct polyps, seems to be the most accurate ID.

Alveopora typically have 12 individual polyps.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm genuinely curious - where exactly are you guys looking to count the polyps? I feel like I'm missing something, as from my understanding, each head on an LPS is indeed one polyp. SPS are a bit different, I get that, but I've always been able to identify the polyps on those. Can someone enlighten me on what I'm overlooking here?

So I'm still unsure, is this a Goniopora or an Alveopora?

I think I may have misspoken earlier. When I said polyps, I was probably incorrect - it's the tentacles that are key. A Goniopora typically has 24 individual tentacles at the end of a polyp, whereas an Alveopora usually has 12. Check out this article from Advanced Aquarist for a more detailed explanation.

Goniopora, those corals have 24 tentacles on each polyp, also known as skirts.

I went to my local fish store and they told me this coral is goniopora stokesi. I'm not sure about its requirements, can someone tell me what this coral needs to thrive?
