Why discus eggs turn white?

Noticed my discus laid eggs yesterday, but today they're all white. Tank's a 75g, temp at 84F, pH 6.5, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Parents are healthy, been feeding beef heart and bloodworms. What's the deal?

White eggs usually mean they're infertile or got fungus. Check if the parents are fanning them, if not, they might've given up. My pair did the same till I upped water changes to 50% daily during spawning. Also, try adding methylene blue next time, cuts fungus risk.

Yep, Lister's spot on. Fungus is a killer. I had this happen when my tank was too clean, weird vibe. No biofilm for the wigglers. Now I let a bit of mulm build up, and boom, fertile eggs. Gonna sound sketchy, but a lil dirt helps.

Totally agree! My discus are chill now but used to bail on eggs till I dimmed the lights. Brightness freaks 'em out. Maybe try that, OP?

Parents eating the eggs? Mine did that till I fed 'em more. Like, double the beef heart. Nope, not kidding. Hungry fish ditch eggs fast.

Thanks, all. Gonna crank up water changes and try methylene blue next spawn. Lights are already low, but I'll cut 'em more. Appreciate the tips!

Seen this in my 55g. Eggs turned white after I added new driftwood. Could be tannins messing with 'em. Removed it, next batch was golden. Maybe check recent tank changes?

My pair's eggs always go white. Tried everything. Gave up and got a new male. Now they're fertile. Sometimes it's just the fish.
