What's the best way to clean a discus tank without stressing them out? I've got a 75 gallon with sand substrate, driftwood, and some live plants. My current routine is 50% water changes twice a week, but the algae buildup is getting annoying. I've tried a magnetic cleaner, but it doesn't cut it for the corners. Any recommendations for tools or techniques?

I use a sponge and a razor blade for the glass. It's simple but works. Just be careful with the blade around silicone seams.

For algae, a good quality scraper with a long handle is key. I've had success with the Flipper cleaner. It's gentle on the glass and reaches tight spots. Also, consider reducing light duration if algae is a persistent issue. My discus are less stressed when I clean during their feeding time, as they're distracted.

I swear by the Eheim gravel vacuum. It's gentle on the sand and gets all the gunk out without disturbing the substrate too much. Pair it with a Python water changer, and you're golden. My discus don't even flinch when I use it.

Algae pads are cheap and effective. Just rinse them well before use.

For deep cleaning, I'd recommend a UV sterilizer. It's not a tool per se, but it keeps the water crystal clear and reduces algae long-term. I run mine for 8 hours a day, and my discus tank has never looked better.

Yo, get yourself a turkey baster for spot cleaning. It's clutch for sucking up leftover food and debris without messing with the whole tank.

I've found that using a soft-bristled toothbrush works wonders for cleaning around plants and driftwood. My discus seem to ignore it completely, which is a win.

A good siphon is a game-changer. I use the Aqueon one, and it's been solid. Also, try adding some nerite snails. They're low-key algae-eating machines and won't bother your discus.

Yeah, the Flipper is legit. I've been using it for months, and it's way better than the cheap ones I used before. Also, consider dosing with Seachem Excel to keep algae in check.
