I just couldn't resist this little guy. He was stuck at Petsmart for a steal at $3.99 - what a deal. I mean, who wouldn't grab it? He's now the king of his 20-gallon castle and loving every minute of it. This tiny fella's probably only a few months old, but that gorgeous blue color sealed the deal for me. Breaking my usual tradition of naming my Betta's after movie monsters, I've decided to call this one Squiggy - it just suits him perfectly.

That little guy is a real showstopper, I just love the blue on him. I swear, he's so charming, I wouldn't be surprised if he's got a whole crew of friends coming over for a housewarming bash - maybe even Laverne and Shirley made the guest list, haha.

For some reason, it seems like Squiggy and Lenny just can't coexist. I'm not sure what it is, but they seem to have an instant dislike for each other.

Update on Squiggy - he's made it through the first week, still kicking and doing great. Always a bit on edge till they pass that initial hurdle, you know. New fish can get a bit shocky from the move, and if they're weak to begin with, it can be too much for 'em.

Isn't he though? I just couldn't leave him sitting there, that blue was too perfect. It'll be fun to see if he keeps that same color as he gets bigger, I'm curious to see how he'll change.

That blue color of his is something else, almost like metal. Never seen it before. Been toying with the idea of finding a female to pair him up with, maybe give breeding another shot. He's a great male, perfect for it. With summer coming up, my fish room's gonna be a sauna, so we'll see how it all plays out.

I picked up one of those Zoo Med Betta hammocks ages ago, but none of my other guys ever gave it a second glance. Squiggy, on the other hand, has claimed it as his own and seems to really enjoy it. Every night when the lights go out, I catch him lounging up there.

Squiggy is one dashing betta - that face of his is almost invisible against the dark background in the photo. I mean, $3.99 at Petsmart? What a steal. And I'm glad I gave in to that blue color, his name just seems to fit him perfectly.

Thanks, I'm quite fond of that black face too. It's got a Siamese look to it, like a seal point - which, in a way, makes sense since his ancestors originally came from Siam.
