Acan frag polyps extending: what's the cause and how to encourage it

I've had my Acans for about a year now, and I've noticed something weird lately. The other day, after feeding, the polyps started extending upwards instead of just inflating and putting out their tentacles. The only thing that's changed in the tank is that we had a big salinity swing when I was away for work over the weekend in December - whoever was in charge didn't top off my tank with RODI, so salinity went from 1.025 on Friday morning to 1.036 by Monday night.
I've got that under control now, and I'm nursing a frogspawn coral that receded pretty badly because of the spike. But I'm wondering, do Acans normally extend their whole polyp like that, or is mine just stressed about something? I don't know if it needs more light, since it's been healthy and growing like crazy since I got it. I started with 3 heads and now it's got over 10.
