How much food for your fish?

I've been keeping a 20-gallon tank with 5 Neon Tetras and a Betta for about a year now. I usually feed them once a day, but I'm not sure if I'm overfeeding. How do you guys measure the right amount?

It's great you're thinking about this. Overfeeding can cause water quality issues. For small fish like Neon Tetras, a pinch of flakes or a few micro pellets per fish is enough. Bettas need a bit more, like 2-3 pellets twice a day. Watch their bellies, they shouldn't look bloated.

I agree with florabell. I've got a similar setup with Guppies and a Betta. I feed them in the morning and evening, but only what they can finish in 2 minutes. Any leftovers, and I'll cut back next time.

Yo, sly_lash, I feel you. I used to dump food in like it was a buffet, lol. Now I stick to the 2-minute rule. My fish are chill, and the water stays clean. Also, skip a day once a week, it's good for their digestion.

That's solid advice. I've noticed my fish are more active when I skip a day. It's like they're hunting for scraps, which is kinda fun to watch.

I've got a 30-gallon with a mix of Tetras and Corydoras. I feed them once a day, but I alternate between flakes, pellets, and frozen brine shrimp. Variety keeps them healthy, and I've never had issues with overfeeding.

My fish are always hungry, but I stick to a schedule. Morning pellets, evening flakes. No exceptions. They've learned to deal with it, and the tank stays clean.

I'm new to this, but I've been feeding my Goldfish twice a day. They seem fine, but now I'm worried I might be overdoing it. How do you know if you're feeding too much?

Goldfish are messy eaters. If you see uneaten food or the water gets cloudy fast, you're probably overfeeding. Try cutting back to once a day and see how they react.

I feed my fish every other day. They're healthy, and the tank stays clean. Less food means less waste, and the fish don't seem to mind.
