Ideal flow for torch coral

I've been struggling to find the right flow for my torch coral. It's in a 40-gallon tank with moderate lighting, and the polyps aren't extending as much as I'd like. Current flow is from two wavemakers set to alternating pulses. Anyone have tips?

Torches can be picky about flow. I've got mine in a 75-gallon with a single gyre on low, and it's thriving. Maybe dial back the wavemakers? Too much turbulence can stress 'em out.

Agreed. Torches prefer indirect flow. Try positioning them where the current isn't hitting them directly. Mine's under a Kessil A360X, and the polyps extend fully with gentle sway.

What's your water movement like at the surface? If it's too choppy, it might be creating inconsistent flow lower down. I'd aim for 10-15x turnover rate for torches, but with a softer delivery.

Yo, my torch was actin' sketchy till I moved it to a spot with less direct flow. Now it's chillin' and fully extended. Maybe try that, fam.

I've observed that torch corals respond better to laminar flow rather than turbulent. Adjust your wavemakers to create a more consistent, gentle current.

My torch didn't do great till I switched to a single MP10 on the lowest setting. Now it's happy as can be. Less is more sometimes.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try reducing the flow and repositioning the coral to see if that helps.

Good call. Let us know how it goes. Torches can be divas, but once you find their sweet spot, they're golden.

I've had success with my torch in a mixed reef tank. The key was finding a spot where the flow is gentle but consistent. Maybe try a corner with less direct current.
