Hi everyone,

I recently set up a marine tank with the help of my local shop. They helped me get my 70l tank up and running smoothly, and they even tested the water for me. This weekend, I introduced my first two fish - two clowns, one deep orange and the other more yellow. They seem to be doing well, swimming around and eating okay. I've been keeping the algae under control with four Turbo Snails, which are doing a great job on the glass.

I've been reading through the forum, and I think I've found a solution to my green algae issue on the sand. I'm going to give it a try and see if I can get my sand looking better. I do have a few questions, though.

What's the best timing for my lighting to come on and go off with my timer? I'm not sure what schedule to follow.

In terms of feeding, how much and how often should I be feeding my clowns? I've got King British Marine Fish food, and I'm working 9 to 5, so I need something that fits my schedule.

I'm also looking to add some more fish to my 70l tank that will get along with my clowns. What would you recommend, and how many would be a good number? I've already ordered an anemone, which I'll be adding to the tank next weekend.

Possibly a Yellow Goby or a Wrasse, those might be alright, or maybe one of them Firtideflow things.

abit of a nosey question but, how longs your tank been up and running?
What kinda flow are you getting in there, and are you using a skimmer?
What lights are you using, and what are your plans for the tank?
And can we get some pics of the setup and the little fellas?

I've got my lights on for 12 hours a day, and the moonlights stay on till bedtime.

You'll want to be feeding those clowns either 2 small meals a day, or one decent sized meal.
You should be using a mix of good quality frozen foods like mysis or marine mix, and a decent flake or pellet like new era.

On a slightly negative note, I gotta say, your tank might be a bit too small, and not mature enough for an anemone.
Clowns don't need an anemone to host, they'll happily make themselves at home in all sorts of things, like long polyped toadstool, hairy mushrooms, xenia, or even just a powerhead.

Right a few question as we are a nosey lot

How long has your tank been running?
Just over 2 months while I got the water right.

What sort of flow do you have?
The pump's 4w, not entirely sure what that means yet.

are you running a skimmer?
Honestly, I'm still learning, what's a skimmer?

what lights do you have?
I've got a single 36w lamp, seems to be doing the job.

what are your plans?
I've always been fascinated by clowns, saw them on my Red Sea dives. I'd love to create a mini ecosystem, make the tank self-sufficient. Open to ideas, though.

Nice, I've got mine set to 8am - 8pm, might adjust that.

You need to be feeding your clowns either two small meals a day or once a day
feeding should consist of good marine defrosteadsly frozen food such as mysis, marine mix etc and a good flake or pellet such as new era.
Morning and evening feeds sound like a plan. How much food per feed, though?

A bit of bad news though, your tank is not mature enough, nor big enough for an anemone. Clowns don't need an anemone to host, they have been known to host such things as long polyped toadstool, hairy mushrooms, xenia, pussy coflake, powerheads , in fact nearly anything!
