just set up my new clown fish in the 80 litre tank and they're mostly sticking to one corner, is this normal behavior for them or just a settling in phase?

Generally speaking, it's not uncommon for clown fish to take some time getting used to their new surroundings. I'd give 'em a few days of peace and quiet before introducing new foods to their diet. Having some mysis shrimp on standby is also a good idea, just in case they're a bit finicky about eating at first.

Mine did the same thing when I first got them, they stuck to one corner for a bit. I was worried but they came out of it after a while. If you're still concerned, you could try switching off the lights for a bit, see if that helps them settle in.

thanks for the advice, they seem to be settling in fine now, been feeding them no problem and they're swimming all over the tank

Glad to hear that worked out for you. I'm probably adding another clown to my reef tomorrow, just because the LFS is being stubborn about parting with some palythoas - apparently the clown's taken a shine to them. Might just have to introduce him to my mantis shrimp instead of the usual fare.

Maybe that little guy will become a mantis snack.

No more nem, traded him in for some store credit. I'm looking for something bigger but less aggressive. The nem was growing way too fast for my 55-gallon tank, taking up valuable space. Now I've got a little clown fish that's a bully, loves to pick on my foxface. I can only imagine what the mantis shrimp would do to him - it's a cruel thought, but also kind of entertaining. After seeing the mantis punch through a chopstick like it was nothing, I'm confident it would take care of the clown. Guess the little guy gets to live for now.

I'm looking for some easy-going fish to add to my tank, something like clownfish, does anyone have any suggestions?

Solo or with tankmates, always a dilemma.

I've found that damsels are relatively low-maintenance, they're not fussy eaters and generally don't cause any issues. They tend to retreat to their hiding spots at night, leaving your inverts be.

Yeah, yellow tail damsels are pretty much the epitome of easy-to-keep marine fish. They're hardy, no fuss, but as you said, can be a bit testy with other tankmates. I've had them with clowns and it's been smooth sailing, no issues whatsoever.
