Hey all,
I'm considering getting a pair of H. erectus for my 20 gal high, with plenty of LR and a stacked high setup. I've already got some calupera growing, including red grape and another red type, which should provide a nice surface for them to attach to.

I know I need to avoid mixing energetic fish with them due to feeding issues, but what about inverts? I'd imagine snails and hermits would be fine, but I'm not so sure about cleaner shrimp. In my main tank, they snatch food before my fish can even get to it, so I'm guessing they're not the best choice... Are peppermint shrimp any less aggressive, or are they similar?

If anyone's got some pics of their tanks with these guys, I'd love to see them. I visited a place in London recently and they had a tank full of them, so hopefully they'll still be there when my tank is cycled and ready.

Just to clarify, I'm coming from a marine tank background, so I'm aware of the cycling process and the wait time before adding fish and inverts.

Cheers.

Haven't had the pleasure of keeping seahorses myself, but I've heard a thing or two about their feeding habits. From my own experience, I think starfish, feather dusters, and urchins would be alright with them - they're all relatively slow-moving or filter feeders, so they shouldn't compete for food. Can't comment on other inverts, but I've found that most slow swimmers or filter feeders should be okay. Had issues with fish eating too quickly in the past, so I think that's the main thing to watch out for.

Some gobies are alright too, slow swimmers or bottom dwellers, they're not gonna compete with the seahorses for food.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm planning on getting them after Christmas, my parents are getting me vouchers to help out with the cost of the live rock and CUC. I'll be getting all the essentials from work, and then a couple of months later, I'll be bringing home the seahorses. I'm thinking of just keeping the pair, as they'll need feeding frozen or live food twice a day, and I don't want to risk over-polluting the water. I've got a simple setup in mind, just live rock, powerheads, and a couple of internal filters with media - I don't see the need for a protein skimmer in a nano tank, and I've heard they can be bad for seahorses anyway. Once I get everything set up, I'll start a journal in the journal section, so keep an eye out for that.

Found a great resource on seahorse tankmates - check out this link: http/www.seahorse.org/library/articles/tankmates.shtml. This site's like a treasure trove for all things seahorse.
