starting with saltwater

just got my 45L saltwater setup up and running, cycling with live sand at the moment. still figuring out when to introduce live rock and how much to add - its a small tank and i've heard they can be a bit trickier to manage. me and the other half have had a good run with our 200L tropical aquarium, so we're pretty stoked to be diving into the world of marine fish.

anyway, was wondering what fish and inverts would work well together in a small space - ideally nothing that'll grow over 3". can anyone suggest a decent community group for a small tank like mine? cheers, jay and gem

Hi Jay and Gem, I'm also new to the marine scene, just started setting up my own little reef back in March. I'd say get the live rock in as soon as possible, that's when the tank will really start to cycle.

Once that's in, you'll need to give it some time and test the water to see how the cycle's progressing. With a tank as small as 45L, you'll be limited with what you can keep, I've got a 94L tank and that's already a challenge for maintaining stable parameters.

For stocking, I'd recommend a couple of shrimps and a goby, they're pretty low maintenance, and maybe a damsel for the top half of the tank, just be aware that they can be a bit territorial.

sorted the live rock, looks great now. Next challenge, finding a perch for the seahorses. I've been searching everywhere for artificial tree sponge or similar, but can't seem to find any decent sites. Does anyone know of a good place to get this stuff?
