I've got experience breeding bettas, so I'm good on the breeding and raising side of things. But I'm looking for opinions on which female to pair with my halfmoon mustard gas male.

I've got a few options - I could try to find a mustard gas female, but they're pretty rare around here, or I could use one of the 15 females I already have. I've got a few different colors to choose from, including pink, red, blue, and metallic green or silver scales.

I'm leaning towards either a full yellow female or the metallic blue one with red fins. What do you think the babies would look like with either of those pairs? I've also got a friend with a full yellow male, and I'm trying to convince her to let me borrow him to breed with one of my full yellow females - you don't see many full yellow ones around here.

I wish I had some photos of my actual fish to share, but my phone's broken. I can share some online pics that show what they look like, though.

I think the full yellow female would be a good choice, it'll likely breed more true to color than the other options. If you do end up using your friend's full yellow male, just be careful, I've seen them beat each other up pretty badly during breeding.

I was leaning towards the full yellow female, but then I stumbled upon a thread discussing how the red color can enhance the yellow when paired with a mustard gas betta. It's got me wondering, though - I've also read that red is a dominant color, so I'm not sure how true that claim is. If I do decide to borrow my friend's full yellow male, I'll definitely make sure she's aware of the risks involved in breeding and the potential for aggression between the two bettas. I'd want to return him to her in the same condition he's in now, so I'd take extra precautions to ensure his health and well-being throughout the process.
