Just got my Hydra 52, gonna put it over my chalice/favia tank. What settings do you guys think would be best for bringing out LPS colors?

I'm curious too, heard those Hydra 52's can be pretty intense on acans, supposedly melts the mouths right out. I've got mine set around 80% for the blues and violets, and then 30% for the rest, just kinda eyeballed it to see what looked decent.

I'd be cautious with the Hydra 52, given its reputation for being a powerful fixture. Most chalices and acan lords I've come across seem to prefer lower light conditions, though I've noticed Acan Bowerbanki can handle more light than lords.

Start with conservative settings and gradually increase the intensity, keeping a close eye on your corals. Don't be afraid to dial it back if needed. Even with Gen 3 LEDs, finding the sweet spot can be tricky due to factors like fixture height, specimen depth, placement, color selection, and photoperiod.

My initial thought is that 80% blue might be too aggressive, especially if your corals aren't accustomed to it. Focus on maintaining their overall health rather than chasing the perfect color combination. What kind of lighting did you use before? You might also want to explore Hydra-specific forums for valuable insights from experienced users.

Low whites, higher blues. 20k is a good starting point, in my opinion. You can easily overpower the colors and then struggle to get them back, like what happens with acans.

I re-read my previous response and it sounds a bit overcautious. I've been running the Hydra 52 at 60% for a month now as part of the acclimation process. Given the fixture is over a foot above the tank, and the tank itself is 20" deep, I'm hoping this will help prevent any issues. So far, my acans seem to be doing just fine with this setup.
