How to care for java moss

I've got some java moss on the way from Zorchzon and I'm excited to get it in my tank. I'm planning to use it on my terracotta pot cave ornament to cover up the visible bits. I've attached anubias to my ornaments and driftwood with a safe super glue before, but I've never worked with java moss. To get it to spread across the pot, do I just start with a small patch and let it grow on its own? Or should I cover as much of the surface area as possible with the moss? Do I need to use some kind of mesh to keep it in place while it gets established? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to java moss, but I'm looking forward to figuring it out and getting it in my aquarium.

For holding the java moss in place, you can use cotten wool or fishing line - these work quite well. Nets are another option, but they can look pretty ugly at first. As for covering the surface area, go ahead and cover as much as possible - the moss will grow, but it doesn't attach itself very well. One thing to avoid is using superglue, as it'll just end up sticking the moss together and you'll lose a lot of it.

I've actually had pretty good luck with superglue for attaching moss in the past. However, I did try something different once - I used a fine stainless steel mesh, and then covered it with a fine cotton mesh. It took a few weeks, but the moss eventually filled in nicely.

I'd advise against using superglue for attaching moss, it can turn white and look unsightly in your tank. Cotton or fishing line are better options for securing mosses, they're less noticeable and won't damage the moss.
