Hey everyone, just a thought - I'm considering getting a group of Julidochromis for my 2ft 100L tank. Any species would be fine, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Should I just get a bunch and let a pair form naturally, then find new homes for the rest?

I've heard mixed results from people trying to keep Julidochromis in groups, to be honest, it's a real gamble. From what I've gathered, it's generally recommended to get a group of 6 or so, let them form pairs naturally, then rehome the extras - it's just not worth the risk of a tank war.

With a pair established, the juveniles get to stick around and help with the younger ones, so you'll end up with a tank full of Julies over time.

I think Julies' small mouths make them seem harmless, but they can get really territorial and aggressive towards each other. With loads of rocks in there, I reckon you could keep 4 or 5 transcriptus or ornatus without too much trouble.
