Floating java fern care and advice

I just let my java fern go free in the tank after the thread it was tied with started coming undone. Should be okay floating around, right?

It'll grow just fine floating, I've never tried this myself though, I prefer the way it looks attached to driftwood or rocks. Consider using fishing line, super glue, or marine grade thread for a more secure tie.

Might be worth a shot, super glue that is.

I've found that the "Crazy Glue" brand works really well for this. To attach my java fern, I actually use a combination of thread or fishing line along with a dab of super glue - seems to hold up nicely. Just be sure to take the decor out of the tank, dry it thoroughly, and then apply the glue for the best results.

When using super glue for your java fern, make sure it's a cyanoacrylate-based product. Look for cyanoacrylate gel specifically, it's the way to go.

Crazy Glue's formula is indeed cyanoacrylate, I've had success with it.

I use the exact same stuff - Krazy Glue, it's cyanoacrylate gel. That's what I've got too, @Holden On.

It's not designed to float. You might see some out-of-water growth, but without anchor, it's likely to rot. Secure it first with string or those metal twist-ties, then apply super glue. This combo works because it prevents the plant from moving underwater, allowing the glue to set properly. Most people who glue make the mistake of submerging the plant before the glue dries, it's hit or miss. Tie it down, add glue - that's my approach.
