I'm setting up a planted tank without a heater, the room's warm enough anyway. I want to get some duckweed for the surface, and I'm thinking some grass-like plants and a few leafy ones to mix it up. What would you guys suggest?

What's the water temperature going to be like in your tank? Most tropical plants should do alright in cooler water, down to around 16C. I'm thinking Ambulia, Hygrophila, Rotala, Ludwigia, and Vallis should all be okay.

Some plants that might do well in your tank are Anubias and Java Fern. Crypt wendtii is another option, but as coltin mentioned, it might not thrive in cooler temps. Anubias nana petite is a smaller alternative. If you're looking for something grass-like, you could try Dwarf Hair Grass. Java Moss is great for coverage and Moneywort can add some nice texture. Zorchzon sword can get quite large, but it's a nice option if you have the space.
