I recently introduced Cabomba to one of my aquariums and I'm really pleased with its appearance. However, I've noticed it's been shedding a significant amount of leaves, to the point where some stems are almost bare. I'm wondering if this is just a normal adjustment phase, or if there's something specific I should be doing to address the issue.

Cabomba plants typically require high light conditions to thrive, and their stems can be quite delicate. If you have active swimmers or fish that tend to dig around, they might be inadvertently causing damage to your plants.

Cabomba shedding its leaves, been there, done that - over fifty years ago, I might add. I've always been a fan of its appearance, but I just couldn't seem to make it work. Figured it was one of those plants that's a bit too advanced for my skills, you know, like it's got some special needs that I couldn't quite meet. I gave it my best shot, but no luck. Definitely not a plant for the novice, that's for sure.

I find that interesting. My experience with Cabomba has been quite different - it thrives in my outdoor tubs, growing rapidly and reaching impressive stem lengths of 24 inches or more. The top portion tends to be a lighter shade. I recently moved them indoors to unheated tanks with moderate lighting, and they're adapting well so far.

Cabomba's a sensitive one - it thrives or it withers. Sudden shifts in water chemistry, lighting, or temperature can be its downfall. If the stem remains firm, there's a chance for recovery, but generally, when it sheds leaves, it's on a downward spiral. Ambulia's a similar-looking alternative, and it's far more forgiving to grow.

I think it's likely a light issue, possibly compounded by water nutrients. My own attempts at growing Cabomba have been short-lived, lasting only a few weeks. I knew my lighting was insufficient, so I'm inclined to agree that's the main culprit.

I think we used to get sessiliflora, that's the one that comes to mind.
