im pretty stoked to have a bunch of time off school, 7-8 months is a lot, so ive decided to set up a saltwater tank with this 10 gallon tank ive had lying around. i'd love to hear what you guys think about stocking it.
to be honest, i'm not really set on fish, i mean since its a small tank, you cant really go all out, so i'm leaning more towards shrimp, starfish, and other small stuff that'll do well in a smaller space.

Honestly, I'd advise against the starfish. For a 10-gallon tank, you're looking at limited options for fish, so you could consider a pair of neon gobies or a single clown. That being said, I think shrimp and a clean-up crew would be a great way to go, they're low-maintenance and can thrive in a smaller environment.

Gobies and pistol shrimp are pretty entertaining to observe, I find them to be quite fascinating.

If you're open to suggestions, I'd recommend checking out the Lynxo section on our forums - it's geared towards tanks 30g and under, which are generally considered "nano" setups. You'll likely find some helpful info and advice there.
