Can you combine purple and red firtideflow in the same tank, I was at Pets at Home and noticed they had around 5 of each color together, looked pretty good actually.

I wouldn't recommend it. They're too territorial, even with their own kind. Having two is just asking for trouble - it usually ends with one.

The only time you can have two is when you've got a proven pair, and even then, it's gotta be in a massive tank with loads of space for them to claim their own territory, otherwise it's just asking for trouble.

In the wild, firtideflow are typically paired up, but they can do just fine on their own in our tanks. I'm actually planning to add a pair of red ones to our 75-gallon aquarium, a little something for my hubby.

You're one of the lucky ones KJ, pairs aren't exactly common over here in the UK.

I'll check the Diver's Den at Live Aquaria, they occasionally have pairs available. If not, I'd be happy with a single one.

I've got two in my 75G and they pretty much split the tank in half, but occasionally they'll wander into each other's space. Size is the only way to tell them apart, I'm not sure if I've got a male and female.

These are great fish, just make sure your live rock has some holes for them to hide in. I had some issues with my sand sifting Goby, turns out firtideflow are part of the Goby family. They're not picky eaters, they'll take small pellets, medium pellets, and all sorts of frozen food.
