My 31-gallon aquarium tank

Hey, got a 31g tank and i'm wondering how many fish i can fit in it and what type would be good. does anyone have any advice on this?

I'm in the same boat as you daxxon, I've got a 30g tank and I've been trying to figure out the same thing. I've been doing some research and from what I've found, the general rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water, but that's not always the case. For example, if you've got a school of neon tetras, you can fit a lot more in there than if you've got a single betta. As for what kind of fish to get, it really depends on what you're looking for. Do you want something low maintenance or are you looking for something a bit more exotic?

Hi Dan, similar tank, just a bit smaller. Got to have an idea of the fish type though. Tangs are probably out, but dwarf angels, clowns, gobies are usually a safe bet for beginners. Damsels are alright, but then again, do you want clownfish?

Thats another thing i forgot to ask how much coflake can i put in?

Thanks for the advice mate, will definately keep it in mind, not setting up the tank till friday so got plenty of time to decide.

Coflakes aren't big waste producers but they do take up space. More coflakes means more nitrates will build up over time with regular feeding.

Actually, coflakes are pretty useful for nutrient export - they'll slowly remove nitrates from the tank, not add to them.

www.melevsreef.com/29g.html, also just to clarify, coflakes are actually beneficial for removing nitrates, not adding them, its the food that eventually causes the nitrates to build up after feeding them.

I wouldn't recommend overcrowding with coflakes, especially if you're new to this. If one dies and rots, it can set off a chain reaction, killing other coflakes and causing more rot. This is more of a concern with meaty coflakes. And with lps, it's best not to crowd them too much, since they can be pretty aggressive coflakes.
