We've been running a South American cichlid tank for a while now, and we're looking to add an African cichlid setup to our collection. I'd appreciate some feedback on my planned stocking for the new tank. We've already got the 125g long tank set up and cycling, so I'm eager to start introducing some fish. My current plan is to include three sunnygolds, three blue peacocks, three red peacocks, three white labs, and three yellow labs, along with a pair of cuckoo catfish. Does this sound like a viable arrangement?

To be honest, I'm not really familiar with cichlids, so I won't be much help with your specific question. However, I do have some thoughts on what I'd personally love to keep in a 125-gallon tank. For me, it's all about creating a striking visual display. I think a school of Bala Sharks would be absolutely stunning in a tank that size - their movement and activity would really bring the space to life. Alternatively, I've always been captivated by the elegance of discus, and I think a large group of them would be incredibly impressive in a 125-gallon tank.

You'll want to be aware that electric yellows and yellow labs are essentially the same thing. The yellows and whites will crossbreed, as will the different peacocks. If you're set on having all males, you might consider having just one of each species to avoid any potential issues.

Thanks for the input, guys.
I appreciate your thoughts, Rainbow, but I've got a home to keep and a wife who's keen on adding another cichlid tank to our collection - and I'm not about to give up my spot on the bed just yet.
James, your info on crossbreeding is spot on, but to be honest, I'm not too fussed about it - any extra fry will just become a snack for our oscars, so I'm not worried about that. My main concern was just making sure the tank's inhabitants would all get along, and with seven different cave areas set up, I'm hoping the males will be able to stake their claims and establish their own territories.
