I fast my rift lake cichlids twice a week, it's just my way of preventing uneaten food from lingering around. On feeding days, I give them two meals.

If you get the food amount right, you won't have leftover food, and daily feeding is perfectly fine.

Cichlids are pretty smart, and they quickly learn to associate you with food. If you don't feed them when they see you, you're basically just frustrating them.

I'm not entirely sure why I started fasting my betta, it was just a recommendation I received and I stuck with it. I'm open to changing my approach, perhaps feeding him once a day would be more suitable. Initially, I began fasting due to issues with yellow water, but in hindsight, I think it was likely caused by an overdue filter pad replacement.

I give my Cichlids a snack when they swim up to the glass, looking for food. It's just a little something to keep them calm and happy.
