Lights are key, but substrate and CO2 matter just as much. If you're not willing to invest in all three, stick to easier plants.

I've seen people use dry start method for carpets. Anyone tried that?

Dry start can work but it's a hassle. You have to keep the humidity high and wait weeks before flooding. I prefer just planting submerged and being patient.

Dry start is overrated imo. Just plant it wet and let it do its thing. Less stress, same result in the end.
