I'm new to millepora, but I've heard they need strong, consistent flow. What's the best wavemaker for a 40-gallon? I'm thinking about getting one but don't wanna overdo it.
For a 40-gallon, an MP10 or a Nero 3 would be perfect. Both are adjustable, so you can dial in the right flow without blasting your corals. Start low and gradually increase until you see good polyp extension.

Has anyone tried dosing potassium for millepora growth? I've read it can help, but I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Potassium can be beneficial, but it's not usually the limiting factor. Focus on alk, calcium, and mag first. If those are stable and growth is still slow, then consider potassium. Test before dosing—it's easy to overdose.
