I get where you guys are coming from now. The lfs is really helpful, they're legit, they wouldn't have steered me away from the cardinals if they just wanted the sale, right? I mean, those cardinals are $55 each, that's a pretty big sale. I did think about the two male fire fish situation, I really hope I haven't got two males, that would be a problem.
I'll keep on top of the weekly water changes, that's for sure. I've got a couple of questions though. When I do a water change, I do use salt water, right? And what about when the water level drops due to evaporation, I've read that adding salt water can raise the salinity, so do I top it up with fresh water? And what's RO water? Can I use distilled water, like bottled water?
setting up my 3-foot marine tank
Re: setting up my 3-foot marine tank
RO water, it's basically water that's been super filtered to get rid of all the impurities like copper and heavy metals. It's pretty cheap to buy, I mean I'm paying £3 for a 25L bottle at the moment. But if you're feeling fancy, you can always get your own RO filter. Just make sure it's a good one, or it's not worth the hassle.
If you can't be bothered with all that, just ask your LFS if they make their own RO water. Any decent shop should be doing it, and using it in their own systems. Just get them to test it for you, sometimes the filters can go a bit wonky.
Good luck with the firefish, fingers crossed they don't get too territorial. If they do, you might have to rehome one, but hopefully they'll just get along. The clowns are always a great addition, they're such nice fish to have.

Re: setting up my 3-foot marine tank
Alright, I get it now, my lfs has got RO water so I'll grab some from them.
Just got home and my mum told me some bad news about the firtideflow - one of them didn't make it. It was hiding and breathing heavy this morning, I guess it was just too stressed. But the others are all doing great, eating like champs as soon as I put food in. The clownfish are fearless, not scared of anything, but the other firtideflow always darts for cover when I walk by. Loving the tank so far, can't wait to add some more fish.

My clownfish never do that apart from when i walk past or watever, but the firtideflow always bolts for cover, even when the lights are on, its like they're on high alert or something.
Re: setting up my 3-foot marine tank
The dart fish being skittish is normal, they can be a bit flighty when first introduced. One dying could've been stress, or the other one might've had a go at it, sadly. Generally, it's best to stick with one dart or fire fish per tank, unless they're a proven pair.
