I warmed and crushed a pea so it'd be easier for him to eat, but he didn't seem to notice it was food.

Why were uneaten pellets just floating around in there? You should be removing those as soon as possible, they're just going to mess up the water.

And honestly, why would he even care about the pea? It's not like it's something he's used to eating or anything.

I think I'll try frozen daphnia next, it might be more to his liking since peas didn't seem to interest him, and it should work just as well for his digestion.

If he's doing well due to fasting, you can skip the pea for now. Just try smaller portions and mix up his food. Three tiny pellets a day is plenty, but space them out. They love to eat, but don't give in to their begging.

For my betta, I also add some fresh frozen bloodworms a few times a week. Every now and then, they get a small piece of flake as a treat, or a few freeze-dried bloodworms. I skip Sundays altogether. Just be careful not to overfeed him and he'll be just fine.

I'm not a fan of freeze dried food. I think it's rubbish, honestly. Riverra's got a point with the frozen bloodworms, though. I've had good luck with Ocean Nutrition's frozen stuff - try their frozen Tropical Quintet.
