Also, vicky99, check your water params. Plants can be finicky if the hardness or pH is off. Mine didn't take off until I got that sorted.

True that. And don't forget about root tabs if you're using gravel. Some plants like Crypts really benefit from them. Just poke one near the roots every few months.

Another tip: if you're using LED lights, keep them on for no more than 6-8 hours a day in low light. Longer can cause algae, even if the light's dim.

Yeah, algae's a pain. I've found that floating plants like Frogbit help block excess light and keep algae down. Plus, they're easy to manage.
