Can we get some actual advice here instead of just criticism. I mean, I'm trying to help my little guy and all I get is people telling me what I'm doing wrong without offering any solutions. It's like, I get it, the bowl isn't ideal, but I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation here. I've already said I'll move him to the bigger tank when he's feeling better, so can we please just focus on helping him get better for now.Luminar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:48 am I'm freaking out, my little water baby is sick. I just got him from PetSmart 3 days ago and I thought he died on the way home. I'm pretty sure he has swim bladder disease, but now I'm thinking it might be something else. There's this weird bulge on his side near his tail, do you think he has parasites?
I've got him in a temporary fish bowl for now, just till he's better. I tried giving him a tiny bit of frozen pea, but nothing's working. He's so gorgeous, his colors are amazing and his blue eyes are stunning. I've been trying out names - Finnly, Duncan, or Castiel, but nothing seems perfect yet. I added some pics from his first night, check them out.

Re: help, my betta is sick
I've had him for 3 days. Thanks for assuming I made the already sick fish sicker. First off, I didn't go into detail about the big tank because it's not relevant to him being sick. I've had him 3 days, and most of the pics are from 3 days ago. The night I brought him home, he wasn't moving, fins clamped, body curved and swollen. I'm explaining everything because it's clear you responded to make accusations and talk down to me about a decision I made. You have no clue what happened since you weren't here, and thank god, because you would've killed my fish. You really shouldn't "help" anyone.
The fish was already sick at the store. He was floating on his side, fins clamped, body bent, and not moving. I thought maybe parasites because the cup was filthy. Since I've been taking care of him, he's gotten a little better - he's no longer floating with his body bent. Because he's sick, I make sure his water stays clean, and he doesn't freak out when I change it. I do 100% water changes, keep his water near a heater, and check the temp so it doesn't get too hot. These are questions you should've asked before making stupid comments to someone you've never met.

When seeking advice, it's crucial to provide all the details, no matter how insignificant they may seem. There's a reason why members ask certain questions - it's to help you and your fish, not to offend you. Getting defensive and kicking off because you don't like the questions isn't going to help your fish feel better.Luminar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:48 am I'm freaking out, my little water baby is sick. Re: help, my betta is sick
Treating fin tank issues can be tricky. Medications often coat the labyrinth organ, which is a big no-no for betta fish as it can lead to death. And to be honest, there's no real "cure" for swim bladder disease - feeding peas is about the best you can do, which you've already tried. I provided a link explaining the fundamental problem with your tank setup. It lacks the necessary bacteria to break down fish waste, releasing toxic ammonia and essentially turning the water into acid. It's not a great situation for your fish.

I'm not here to start a fight, and I didn't mean to come off that way. It's just frustrating when people assume they know what's going on without asking questions. You're right, I didn't provide enough information in my initial post. I should have included more details about my fish's condition and the steps I've taken to care for him.Luminar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:48 am I'm freaking out, my little water baby is sick. To be honest, I was trying to keep my post concise and focused on the issue at hand - my fish's health. I didn't think to include every little detail, like my water test results or the fact that I've been doing daily water changes. I just assumed that people would understand that I'm doing my best to care for my fish.
I know that I didn't cycle my tank properly, and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I've been doing some research and I'm going to take steps to fix that. I'm also going to try to get my fish back into the tank as soon as possible.
I understand that my fish is still at risk, and I appreciate your concern. I'm just trying to do what's best for him, and I could use some guidance and support. Let's try to focus on finding a solution rather than placing blame.
