Dragon soul favia coral
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
Last night, it's tentacles were out, but as soon as I turned on the kitchen lights, it closed up. This morning I tried feeding it again, but no luck. I'm just gonna give it some space, let it do its thing. Still a bit worried it's getting too much light, though. Here's a pic from this morning, it's still on the bottom left.

Re: Dragon soul favia coral
You could try placing a pellet directly on one of its mouths and then put a small container over the coral, that way nothing else can steal its food while it's eating.
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
I'm thinking I need to get a cover for feeding now, ended up dropping a few pellets before I saw your post and each mouth took one in, was a close call though. My hermit and nassarius were right there trying to steal its food, kept the shrimp busy with a piece of frozen fish, but I'm definitely looking for a cover now.
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
You could try using a 16oz soda or water bottle, cut in half - the top side would work perfect as a cover for your coral.
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
On the plus side you got it to eat. Repeat that once or twice a week I think it'll have a good comeback
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
Thanks zenoxa, that soda bottle idea is a good one, I was thinking of a ziploc container, but that's even better. Just got home from work and my dragon soul is showing some of its tentacles, not fully out, but it's a start. Was gonna try feeding it, but I'm not sure if once or twice a week is enough, don't wanna overdo it, what's your take on that.
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
I only say once or twice a week 'cause that's how I do mine, but I'm sure other reefers do it differently. I figure with yours not lookin' its best, light feedings might be better than a bunch. If it were me, I'd do 2-3 pellets every 2-3 days till it's back on track. Maybe someone else can chime in on how often to feed a stressed favia.
Re: Dragon soul favia coral
In my experience, as long as your tank's lighting is adequate and the water parameters are stable, feeding every 7-10 days should work out alright.
