yea i knew all that already, cheers for explaining though. figured it's worth a shot since they're all still young, and like i said, the single one's in a separate tank so i'm just giving him some time in the main tank every now and then to see how things go. i'm not expecting it to work out, but you never know, right.

how big are the clowns in there? i've seen setups with around 7-10 clowns and most of the time its the biggest one causing trouble. removing the big guy won't help either, the second biggest would just take its place.

your best chance is getting them in together when they're still small and the same size. like everyone's been saying, that's the way to go.

another thing, instead of adding the clown and then removing it, try using a breeder net or a small tank in the main setup. keep the single clown in a safe place, within sight of the pair, and let them get used to each other. that way you can see how it goes from there. personally, i don't think adding and then removing is gonna help.

Hi Fablex8, just to correct you, it's actually the female clown that grows the largest and tends to be the dominant one. It's usually her that gets aggressive towards the others.

To have a successful trio, you would need to introduce three juvenile clowns of the same size, allowing them to develop naturally and establish their hierarchy.

Think I might've caused some confusion, referring to the breeder net idea, I meant the newcomer or the one getting picked on should be the one in the net, not the established pair, that way it can get used to them without the hassle.

I've got a plan to put into action once uni settles down. I'm thinking of keeping a log to study their reactions from the start, through to when they're in the aquarium in a breeding box and then every few weeks when they get some full tank time. It'll be interesting to see how their behaviour changes over time. Hopefully, the three-second memory thing won't kick in or I'll be stuffed.
