Compatibility guidance
Re: Compatibility guidance
Don't bother asking about compatibility if you're just going to ignore the advice.
Re: Compatibility guidance
A couple of months isn't exactly a long-term success story, is it? I mean, it's not like the lionfish has suddenly become a vegetarian or something. And those YouTube videos you're referencing - how long did the clownfish actually survive in the tank with the lionfish? Was it a week, a month, or just a few days before it became a meal?sweetie_22 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 9:35 am hi i've got a fuzzy dwarf lion fish thats about 1.5 inches, i know it's gonna grow. i also have a spotted manderin goby. i really wanna get a clown fish to go with them, do u think that would work? and i'm also thinking of getting a cleaner shrimp to join the crew. would that be okay?
please reply asap, i'm heading to my lfs tomorrow and i need some advice.
If you're not going to listen to advice on compatibility, then maybe it's pointless asking in the first place. The reality check will come when you're left with a tank full of lionfish and a handful of expensive fish food. By that time, getting another tank will be a bit of an afterthought, don't you think?

Re: Compatibility guidance
No I already have an established tank and if the lion fish shows any aggression or interest I will move them to my other tank, I will notice it as there is always someone looking at it as its a busy house. I do take advice and I appreciate your concerns, my lion fish is very small and yes I do realise they have a trapdoor mouth, he will eat frozen food. But when a little shrimp swam out into the open the other day in front of the lion it watched it and left it alone, he doesn't seem very interested at all. However it would be arrogant of me to assume he won't eat live things, but he seems a little sympathetic of things that move, eg fish.
Re: Compatibility guidance
The issue isn't aggression. It's about the lion growing bigger and its appetite for fish. The moment you'll realize the lion wants to eat the fish is likely when it's already swallowing it. That's a bit too late, don't you think?sweetie_22 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 9:35 am hi i've got a fuzzy dwarf lion fish thats about 1.5 inches, i know it's gonna grow. i also have a spotted manderin goby. i really wanna get a clown fish to go with them, do u think that would work? and i'm also thinking of getting a cleaner shrimp to join the crew. would that be okay?

I've taken your advice on board and last night the lion seemed a bit too interested so I've moved the clowns and manderin to my other tank, I just thought it would be safer for them and I have to admit I was getting a bit worried.
