I'll try to find some pure ammonia in the states, no luck so far. I'm planning to bring my water to work each day for testing, one of the perks of working at a pet store. I'll start testing tomorrow when I go back to work, keeping an eye on the progress.

We've got plenty of members from the States who can point you in the right direction for finding pure ammonia.

Definitely anubias - it's a staple in my tanks, always planted on driftwood. From my experience, ambient light just won't cut it for anubias - you'll need a dedicated tank light to keep it thriving. I'd also recommend adding a plant supplement like Seachem Flourish, since one betta isn't enough to provide the necessary nutrients for the plants.

In my betta tanks, I've got a mix of plants that do well - duckweed, pennywort, foxtail, java moss, anubias, and dwarf hairgrass. I've attached some of the java moss to driftwood or ornaments, but I also let it float loose in the tank, and my bettas love to sleep in it.

Just found the ammonia I needed at a local True Value, had to search around but finally got it.

I'd recommend getting some driftwood for your anubias, makes it a great spot for Sinatra to rest.
