It's a shame, really. Fish can adapt to losing an eye, but sometimes there's more going on beneath the surface. My experience with a one-eyed peppered cory, Warren, has been great – he swims with the rest just fine. I named him after my leading hand at work, who also has one eye, and he's doing well too.

That's kinda sad to think about. I've noticed the other cichlids in the tank seemed to sense his imperfection, and they'd occasionally pick on him. It made me wonder if the underdevelopment of his eye might be a sign of other potential issues. Maybe some of his internal organs didn't fully develop either? It's just a thought that crossed my mind.

I had the same thought, about other underlying genetic defects that could've played a part in your little guy's passing. It's possible it was a combination of factors.
I recall watching a documentary on an underwater wildlife park, and they had an Arowana with one eye - I think it was due to an infection. What was really interesting was that they fitted it with an artificial eye.
