Feeding hammer coral
Re: Feeding hammer coral
I don't do meaty foods, but bi-weekly I'll give my hammer a direct dose of coral frenzy or some of that liquid brine/mysis goodness the rest of the tank gets. It's thriving, I snip off frags every 6 months to trade with the LFS. Started with 4 heads, 3-4 years ago, now I've got a colony about 10" across and I've given away/traded at least 10-15 frags, each with 2 or more heads. Good luck, they're awesome additions to a tank - my false Percula even ditched the RBTA for the hammer, they lay eggs on the base almost weekly.

I've only had that particular colony for about a month and a half, but I've got another one that's a couple years old. Honestly, I wouldn't bother trying to feed it, they just don't need it. You're more likely to end up with higher nitrates and phosphates from trying to feed it all the time.oceanix4 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 3:08 am I recently picked up a hammer coral and I'm having some trouble feeding it. I've been trying to place food directly on the polyps, turning the pumps off and on, but it's just not taking. The food ends up falling right off. Can someone give me some advice on how to feed it and how often I should be doing it?
Re: Feeding hammer coral
I use fish poop for my hammer's meals, seems to do the trick.

I've never fed my Hammer and it's doing fine. No need for extra food, trust me.

I'm good with not feeding mine anymore, seems like most don't and theirs are thriving. I'm dealing with a cyano issue and don't want to add to the nitrate and phosphate problem.

Yeah, GSP for sure, I've seen those before, pretty common in some of the tanks I've had.
