I'm not sure about shipping costs, to be honest. It's best to just reach out to Pingo directly, they'll be able to give you a more accurate estimate.

Re: Should I get Discus?

I came across a thread that's pretty relevant to your setup - it's about keeping discus in smaller tanks. One of the users, Farebox, shared a video that caught my eye. He's got a rock background that looks really nice, but here's the thing - it's just taped to the back of the tank. It's a great alternative to the Universal Rocks background you were looking at, and it's way cheaper. Plus, it doesn't take up any space inside the tank, which is a bonus.

Re: Should I get Discus?

I'm thinking of skipping the background altogether. My walls are a very light blue, almost white, so I don't think it'll be an issue with the tank against the wall. Now, about stocking with discus - what's the real difference between having 4, 5, or 6 discus? I know 6 would be more heavily stocked, 5 is the bare minimum, and 4 would be lighter, which I prefer, but if aggression becomes a problem, I'll reconsider. As for tankmates, I'm planning to hold off for a while, unless I decide to add a small school of cardinals or similar, or a few GBR - I saw the combo in your tank and it looked amazing. But I'm not sure yet if I'll add tankmates. I did see a post about Red Spotted Green Discus, specifically the Rio Nanay ones, and it gave me some biotope inspiration. I'm looking for something similar, but not wild-caught, since I know how challenging they can be to keep.

Honestly, I think that's just the nature of buying smaller fish - there's always gonna be a size difference and that leads to a pecking order. Aggression is just part of the deal. That's why some folks say to keep at least 6, the more fish you have, the less you'll notice the aggression since it gets spread out across the tank.

Re: Should I get Discus?

I'm thinking 6 discus might be the way to go now. For maintenance, I was planning on doing 2 50-60% water changes a week, and just gravel vacuuming once a week on weekends. Depending on how busy I get, I might add another water change to the schedule. Usually, I just put the Python in and then go off to do other things, but I stay nearby to keep an eye on it. I saw lunar's tank with the GBR and cardinals, and I really like the idea of having those in the lower regions of the tank. But I'll probably hold off on that for now, or maybe not do it at all if it's not a good idea.
