Is my betta dying?
Re: Is my betta dying?
In addition to what essjay mentioned, consider feeding Taki every 2 or 3 days and only offer what he consumes within a minute. This will help prevent food from decomposing into ammonia, which is particularly crucial at this stage. Getting your filter cycled should be the top priority right now.

Re: Is my betta dying?
When you say 2.5 tank, is that really 2.5 gallons? I'm shocked, that's incredibly small for a betta. I think it's crucial you look into the needs of bettas and consider upgrading to a larger tank. My personal preference is a minimum of 10 gallons for my betta. That being said, the advice on monitoring your tank levels is vital. I've had success with my betta in a 10-gallon tank, accompanied by 7 white clouds and a frog. The setup includes bubbles, heat, and a small filter, and my betta seems very happy. I hope your betta is recovering well. On a separate note, my betta refuses to eat betta pellets. Instead, he favors tropical flake food and sinking pellets designed for bottom feeders like frogs and loaches.
