betta wound?

i'm really worried about my betta, he's got this open wound on his side and it's been getting bigger. i first saw it last week when i was doing a water change and there was blood in the container i had him in. i've been using betafix and changing 1/4 of the water every day to keep everything clean, but it's not getting better. my betta's still swimming around, blowing bubbles and all that, but he's been hanging out near the heater/filter a lot and laying on his side. when he does swim, it looks like he's struggling and he sinks sometimes.

Stop taking him out of the tank for water changes, it's just adding extra stress. When doing large water changes, only change 75 to 80% at a time. What your fish needs now is lots of clean water, I'd recommend doing two 60% water changes a week till he heals.

I only took him out of the tank a couple of times, just to get a closer look at the wound. When I did take him out, I didn't use a net, I just let him swim into a large jug and then picked it up out of the water, so it was less stressful for him. I've had my betta for nearly 2 years now, and I've only taken him out a total of 2 times.
