If I were to swap the Oscar for a carpintis, would jewel cichlids then be a viable option - considering the different dynamics at play with the new cichlid, or would their requirements still clash?

I've had a change of heart, angelfish are now the centerpiece for my 55 gallon. I'm looking at adding other peaceful cichlids like keyholes or a Severum. Thanks for the advice, really helped me see things from a different perspective.

Festivum cichlids are pretty chill, they work well with angels.

Agreed, in their natural habitat they often coexist. This makes me wonder, what are the tank's dimensions and what's the GH/pH like.
