can discus thrive in hard water?
Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
Key thing is consistency. If your tap's stable, they'll adjust better than if you're constantly tweaking params. My tap's 280 ppm, pH 7.7, and I just age it for 24 hours before changes. Tank's 75 gallons, planted, with a sump. No RO, no problems.

Mine are straight vibin' in hard water, but I got 'em from a breeder who uses tap. Tank's 40 gallons (yeah, small, but they're juvies), sponge filter, temp 85°F. Feed 'em six times a day, beef heart and flakes. Water changes every other day, 25%.

I'd say cut it with RO if you can. My first batch croaked in hard water, second batch's doing great with 150 ppm. Tank's 55 gallons, driftwood, no plants. Filter's a cheapo HOB, but it works. Feed 'em tetra bits and frozen brine shrimp.
