Re: Testing for stray voltage in aquarium
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll grab a multimeter tomorrow and start testing. Hopefully it's not the Fluval filter, that thing's only a year old. I'll update once I figure it out.

Testing for stray voltage in aquarium
I've been noticing my fish acting skittish lately, and I suspect stray voltage might be the issue. How do you guys test for it in your tanks? I've got a 55 gallon with a Fluval canister filter, sand substrate, and a mix of live plants. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate. Temp's ...

Re: Poll on ocellaris clownfish
I voted yes, though I still think the poll could be clearer. Tank dimensions play a big role here - consider the length, width, and height. A 20 long, for example, has the same height and width as a standard 10 gallon, but it's 10 inches longer. While clowns could survive in a 10 gallon, I think it ...

Re: Frogspawn coral outgrowing my tank
I think 100 is a bit low for your alk level - 5.6 dkh is quite a way off from where you'd want it to be. Raising it quickly isn't something I'd recommend, as it can be pretty stressful for your tank's inhabitants. I've heard that a safe limit is around 0.5 dkh per day, but I'm not entirely sure ...

Re: Frogspawn coral outgrowing my tank
I've had some experience with Fusion for calcium in my own tank, which is pretty lightly stocked, and I found that I needed to use way more than the recommended couple of capfuls on the bottle. It might be worth checking out this calculator to see if you're adding enough: http://reef.diesyst.com ...

Re: Mysterious growth on my purple tip elegance coral
I'm inclined to agree, it does resemble a sponge. The appearance is quite unusual, and I'm being cautious as this is my first experience with an Aussie elegance. I want to confirm whether these growths are a typical occurrence or something I should be concerned about.

Mysterious growth on my purple tip elegance coral
I've been observing these unusual orange "spikes" protruding from my Aussie elegance over the past couple of days. Never seen anything like this before, and I'm stumped. I did notice a slight increase in my PO4 levels lately, up to 0.04 from zero, and I've been dealing with some GHA growth. Could ...
