Re: How many plants are needed for a silent cycle?
Aim for a balance between aesthetics and functionality, where your plants take up a decent amount of space but still leave enough room for your future fish to swim. Since you're starting with smaller plants, you'll naturally trim and replant stems as they grow, so when you introduce fish, do it ...

Re: Why is my java fern struggling to survive?
I often find myself in a situation where I'm uncertain about a discussion on a post here, so I take a moment to fact-check by searching online for relevant articles or YouTube videos. More often than not, the top search result ends up being the very same post on this site that initially caused my ...

Re: A failed rice farmer's journey
I was thinking, what if I started them off in a dry tank initially? That way, I'd get the benefits of unlimited CO2, but then again, I'd have to keep everything really humid and moist, which raises the risk of mould. Re: guide to setting up a planted tank
I've taken a closer look at the link and it seems that polycycloglutaracetal is indeed a polymerised isomer, not glutaflakedehyde itself. Shapes of molecules can be more important to biology than chemical formulae, after all. I also noticed that the safety sheet mentions no harm to fish, only to ...

Re: guide to setting up a planted tank
Seachem says the active ingredient in Flourish Excel is similar to gluteflakedehyde, but not the same - I'm not sure if I believe them, but it reminds me of the whole "soy boys" thing online. Some people claim soy protein lowers testosterone due to its phyto-estrogens, but studies have shown that's ...
