Re: Best Plants for a Coldwater Tank
Oh yeah, snail outbreaks are the worst. Dunk 'em in alum solution before adding to the tank. Works like a charm.

Re: Best Plants for a Coldwater Tank
Yep, seconding Anubias. Also, check out Hornwort. That stuff's indestructible. Grows like crazy even in chilly water. Just float it or plant it, doesn't matter. My Goldfish can't even kill it, and they're brutal.

Re: is the system experiencing an overload?
In a tank as shallow as 2 feet, I'd say you're looking at a minimum of 250W halide lighting for a carpet anemone, but to be honest, 400W would be a safer bet. These carpets are notorious for being one of the most light-hungry nems out there, and they have a pretty dismal survival rate to boot. And ...

Re: is a copper band suitable for my aquarium tank
I've found that copperbands from local fish stores, not wholesalers, tend to be more receptive to food. My experience with TMC copperbands hasn't been great, they're a real challenge to get feeding and often end up underweight. In contrast, imports just need some time and consistent feeding, and ...

Re: counting fish in the aquarium
Having witnessed the chaos that can erupt when Triggerfish and Lionfish cohabitate, I must stress that combining these two species is ill-advised.
As others have mentioned, the number of fish your tank can support largely depends on the specific species you're considering.

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
No, they were definitely different colors from the start. I've seen a lot of variation in candy cane corals, so it's hard to say if the color had anything to do with the growth rate. Maybe it was just a coincidence, or maybe the lighter-colored ones happened to be in a slightly better spot in the ...

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I think we're overlooking a key factor here - the color of our corals. I've got another colony that hasn't split nearly as fast as the ones that exploded to over 100 heads in 18 months. The super-successful ones are this whitish-green color, whereas I've also got a brownish-red with green centers ...

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I keep my water pretty simple - just B-Ionic two part, but at about half the recommended dose. Weekly water changes are 10% and that's about it.

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I've had a seven head colony that's exploded into over a hundred heads in about a year and a half. Medium flow, 6x96w CF fixture. Had one massive colony, but it got broken up into five smaller ones during a tank upgrade. Different tanks, different results - can't expect the same outcomes, right?

I'm not really one for ranking, so I'll give you a longer list instead.
I love clownfish - each one has its own unique personality that you can easily get attached to.
Manderin Dragonettes are stunning, with their beautiful colours.
The Royal Gramma is another favourite of mine, with colours ...
