The species is likely Betta splendens, as most bettas sold in pet stores are some variation of this species.

I'm guessing you might be referring to the breed, though. If you can get a side-on view of the fish, that would be really helpful in determining the tail type. Try holding a mirror in ...

I just got a new betta and I'm trying to figure out what type it is, does anyone know how to tell?
