Re: Kribs: male aggression towards female

I agree with the suggestions made above, but I think there's more to consider in this situation. Cichlids are known to be quite particular when it comes to selecting their mates, and it's ultimately up to the fish to decide whether they bond or not.

While separating them and reintroducing them to ...

Re: rams with gold balloon and angle

I couldn't agree more with coltin - the only way to put an end to this inhumane practice is by refusing to buy these deformed fish. By not giving in to the demand, we can hope to see a decline in the cruel treatment of these animals. It's heartbreaking to think that their suffering is solely for the ...

Re: restocking my 55 gallon tank

Hey everyone, so I'm looking for some advice on new additions to my tank. Recently lost the rest of my rainbowfish to an unidentifiable disease that hasn't affected the other fish, thankfully. My current stock is: 2 juvenile clown loaches, 1 bn pleco, 1 synodontis, 1 Siamese algae eater (not ...

Re: restocking my 55 gallon tank

There are problems with keeping these fish in the same tank. You might not see them, but they're there and it's affecting the fish. Let me explain.

First, water parameters for rift lake cichlids and soft water fish like the loaches and SAE are worlds apart. It's all about physiology - every species ...

Re: phosphate remover for coral tank

I've had good luck with GFO in a reactor. It's gonna pull phosphates fast, but you gotta monitor it closely or it'll strip too much. Run it slow at first, maybe half the recommended dose, and check levels daily. What's your alkalinity sitting at? High alk can mess with how effective GFO is.

Re: Keeping kuhli loaches with shell dwellers

Considering the vastly different water requirements for kuhli loaches and shell dwellers, it's unlikely they'd coexist harmoniously, due to the distinct parameters each needs to thrive and remain healthy.

Re: Is a ph level of 7.6 suitable for keeping farm-raised african cichlids?

I'm considering keeping farm-raised African cichlids and I'm wondering if my tap water's pH level of 7.6 is suitable.

Generally speaking, the GH and KH of tap water tend to be stable. This is due to the fact that the source water, whether it's a reservoir, lake, or groundwater, usually has a ...

They're super helpful, aren't they. I mean, who needs info on water parameters for fish when you've got data on contaminants for humans.
