What's the diet like for your CT male? What are the water parameters looking like? Are there any plants in the tank, specifically floating ones? What type of filter are you using? Would love to see a photo of the tank and the fish itself.

Re: feeding bettas freeze dried food
I see what you're saying about humans taking supplements, but let's be realistic here. Science has shown that in most cases, these supplements just end up being a costly waste. You can't just pop a vitamin and expect it to work; you need to know what you're deficient in first, and that requires ...

Re: feeding bettas freeze dried food
The frozen food industry, serving both people and animals, would likely take issue with your stance. Freezing is known to destroy only a negligible amount of vitamins.

Re: feeding bettas freeze dried food
If the freeze dried food isn't rehydrated before feeding, it'll expand in the fish's belly. I also make a point to pre soak pellets for the exact same reason, to avoid any potential issues.

Re: feeding bettas freeze dried food
To get the most out of freeze-dried foods, pre-soaking them is key. Try soaking the food in a spoonful of tank water for about 15 minutes before feeding - it makes a big difference.

Re: is my betta struggling with the water flow
I've got a filter on my 5g cube that works great for low flow. It's the Aqua One Clearview Hang-On Filter 100. The flow is totally adjustable so you can customize it to your tank's needs. I think this might be exactly what you're looking for to keep Phil happy and stress-free.

Re: betta fish breeding
You're planning on breeding your betta, but do you have a plan in place for housing the fry in about 8 weeks, especially the males?

Re: is this a tilapia?
I've never encountered tilapia in the Fitzroy river before, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Have you considered reaching out to the DPI about this, vyno9? I think it's worth bringing to their attention. We've got our own set of problems here, European carp being a major one.
