Re: Keeping a dwarf lion fish in a community tank?

They'll likely see shrimp, including cleaners, as a snack. As for tankmates, fish at least half their size should be okay, especially if they're well-fed.

Re: About bristleworms

Most likely just a scavenger, I'd say. The ones to worry about are Hermodice, they're bright red and active during the day, known to eat coflakes, and they originate in the Caribbean. On the other hand, it could be a eucinid - some of these are predators, so it's worth doing some research online to ...

Re: is this new addition excessive?

It's unlikely the lawnmower blenny will bother a plankton-eating fish like the jawfish, given their different ecological niches. That being said, there's always some uncertainty in these situations.

I'd also suggest considering the addition of a GFO or a refugium to help maintain optimal water ...

Re: seeking a little assistance

I'd definitely recommend using a filter in conjunction with your skimmer, it'll give you a bit more peace of mind. Also, I'd suggest swapping out the biological media for something like granular ferric oxide, it's a commercial phosphate remover and it works a treat.

If you're using fully cured ...

Re: seeking a little assistance

I'd definitely recommend a skimmer. Got a sump in this tank by any chance? If so, chucking a refugium in there would be a great idea too.

As for live rock, just use enough to create a few caves, leave plenty of space for swimming.

Re: Mandarin having trouble breathing and not moving

I wouldn't bother putting him in the bucket, seems like more stress than its worth. Maybe just give it a few days and see how he goes, he's still eating and colouring is fine, just a bit lethargic, so could just be a minor thing.

Re: jawfish under attack

It's possible that there's an invert hiding in the rocks that's responsible for the damage. I'm thinking along the lines of a predator like a crab, but I need a bit more information about the tank's history - how long has it been set up? If it's relatively new with new rock, it's possible that ...

Re: please help me

I appreciate you posting in a timely manner, but I do wish you would take the time to type out 'please' instead of 'plzzzzz'. It's a minor detail, but it makes a big difference in the tone of your post.

As for the lumps on your clown fish, I'm no expert, but I've seen similar issues before. It's ...

Re: about the cardinals

I've got Kaudern's Cardinals in my 28gal tank, no issues with them and my clarkii clowns. They're not fans of bright lights or strong currents, tend to stick to the areas with minimal flow and low light. If that's not a problem for your setup, I'd say go for a pair - mine are always together ...

Re: Seeking advice for my 55-gallon saltwater aquarium

The criticism of the Top Fin filter as "crappy" seems unwarranted. People often forget that successful aquariums existed long before the advent of high-tech Berlin systems. Our predecessors didn't rely on oversized skimmers or hundreds of watts of metal halides. Instead, they utilized basic ...
