Re: Miami hurricane chalice coral

Thanks for the advice, I went ahead and moved it under that ledge yesterday. Hopefully it'll start to regain its color, I'm really looking forward to seeing that vibrant turquoise and orange again.

Miami hurricane chalice coral

I'm looking for some advice on this coral - I picked up a small frag, about quarter-sized, from a local swap meet last week and it's currently on the bottom of my 20-gallon tank. There are about five orange eyes, but the color seems a bit dull overall. I'm used to seeing those vibrant turquoise and ...

Re: new ideas for the addition

Continuous feeding seems to be the key to preventing coflake nipping in dwarf angels. As I recall, Centropyge are naturally herbivorous, but if they develop a taste for coflakes in captivity, it's often difficult to reverse. Using a slow dripper or nori sheets to provide a constant food supply could ...

Re: information on watanabei angelfish

I'd definitely say they are reef-safe, but if you do decide to put one in a 50-gallon tank, just keep a close eye out for any signs of stress.

Re: Frogspawn coral dying, what's going wrong

I'm stumped on why your frogspawn and hammer are struggling, but I'd suggest looking into Brown Jelly Disease/Syndrome - it might be worth a shot. I've come across some helpful info on Advanced Aquarist, specifically an article from 2012 that discusses coral health.

Re: learning about flame hawkfish

My little guy didn't make it, had a lot of personality before he became a meal. One of my first saltwater fish, I remember when I first released him, he'd take flake food all the way to the bottom.

Looks like even with all the general rules, there's always that one that doesn't play by them.

Re: learning about flame hawkfish

From my understanding, cleaner shrimp are generally safe from this fish, it's the tiny ones like sexy shrimp that might be at risk. Most of the time, snails and hermits will also be left alone. The larger hawks, like the arc-eye, are the ones that give this family a bad reputation.
