For real, time helps. My tank didn't really pop until like 9 months in. Also, you dosing anything? I started with Brightwell's stuff and saw growth in weeks.

Yo, same thing happened to me last year. Turned out my light was too weak. You sure the XR15's enough for a 40? Might wanna crank it up or add another. Also, how often you do water changes? I slack on those and my stuff stops growing.

Yeah, algae's a pain. I've found that floating plants like Frogbit help block excess light and keep algae down. Plus, they're easy to manage.

Don't forget about Hornwort. It's not picky about light and grows fast. You can float it or plant it, whatever works for your tank. Just be ready to clean up the bits it sheds.

Is my betta eating the java moss?
I was really worried this morning when I saw my female betta just floating listlessly at the bottom of her tank, with a bit of java moss hanging out of her mouth. Luckily, I managed to carefully remove it - it was about a centimeter long, which is pretty surprising. She seems back to normal now, so ...
